(Small Notes for the Issue)
Since its first congress in 1899, the Congress of Japan Surgical Society was held annually except the two in recess. Hanaoka Seishu (physician, 1760-1835) performed the first succesful operation to remove breast cancer in 1804 under general anesthesia by "Tsusensan", which was mainly made from chosen-asagao (Hindu datula).
