The stamps are issued to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Makino Tomitaro (1862-1957), Father of Japanese Botany. He collected more than 400,000 specimens in 94 years of his life, and named more than 1,500 species. The stamps depict five plant paintings he had illustrated.
