Philatelic Week was enacted in 1947 to facilitate stamp collecting hobby among people by introducing cultural value of stamps as well as their aesthetic quality. This year, painting of a folding screen "Irises Screens" (Nezu Museum, Tokyo) by Edo period painter, Ogata Korin (1658 - 1716) is adopted for a postage stamp design.
