(Small Notes for the Issue)

Shirakami Mountains are a mountain range covering the area for 1,300 square kilometers on the border of Aomori and Akita prefectures. Among the area, the virgin forests, 169.71 square kilometers, of beech trees, are the object of an active preservation campaign and a World Heritage appointed in December 1993. Three fourths of the area belongs to Aomori prefecture.
